4 Easy Ways to Keep Your Hot Tub Energy Costs Down
Share

Hot tubs are known for being notoriously costly to operate, especially when the temperature drops in the Winter ā but did you know there are a few simple things you can do to keep your energy costs in check?
Ā 1
Watch the Temperature
One of the easiest ways to control your hot tubās operating costs is to keep an eye on the temperature, and turn it down. Even just a couple of degrees difference in temperature can add up over time, and itās likely you wonāt even notice the difference!

2
Invest in a Good Hot Tub Cover
The best thing you can do to keep the heat in your hot tub and keep your operation costs down is to invest in aĀ good hot tub cover. A cover with a thicker foam coreĀ will have a higher R-value. The R-value of a hot tub cover indicates how effective the insulation inside of it is - so, the higher the R-value, the more heat it keeps in!
There are also a couple upgrades you can apply to your new hot tub cover to retain more heat - one is to add an insulating baffle - which adds an insulating āpillowā along the inside of your hot tub covers fold which traps heat before it can escape - and the other is to upgrade the cover flap seal - which increases the thickness and heat retention properties on the outside where the cover folds.

3
Add a Thermal Blanket
Evaporation is the main source of heat loss in a hot tub, so purchasing and adding a floating thermal blanket will reduce the amount of evaporation that occurs. This will reduce the heat loss through water evaporation and help reduce your heating bill.

4
Insulate Your Hot Tub
If your hot tub is outside in an exposed area (like your deck or patio), then youāre likely losing a lot of heat due to wind. Constructing a wind breaker or covering your hot tub somehow is another very effective way to reduce heat loss.
The key to keeping your hot tubās energy costs down is to increase the amount of heat it can retain. The more heat your tub retains, the less its heater has to work to keep the water warm, and the lower your electrical bills will be!
